According to a new report from Tesla’s supply chain in China, the highly anticipated update to the Model Y is set to debut in the first quarter of 2025. It is expected that Tesla’s popular Model Y refresh i’s coming sooner than expected.

The news follows a series of rumors and reports over the past year. After Tesla launched the refreshed Model 3, many anticipated that the Model Y would be next in line for a makeover. The initial buzz began with a Reuters report that hinted at a Model Y refresh, codenamed “Juniper,” slated for 2024. Bloomberg later supported these claims, suggesting a mid-2024 release.

However, Tesla and its CEO, Elon Musk, were quick to shut down these rumors—at least for 2024. Both Tesla and Musk emphasized that no Model Y refresh was planned “this year,” which only fueled speculation that the update was being pushed to early 2025.

Adding to the intrigue, camouflaged Model Y prototypes were spotted on the roads in California this summer, hinting at a new design. Leaks have since revealed a few key changes expected in the refreshed Model Y, building anticipation among Tesla enthusiasts.

Now, the latest report out of China, citing sources within Tesla’s supply chain, claims that the refreshed Model Y will be delivered in Q1 2025. According to the report, two versions of the Model Y are on the horizon: a 5-seat model, codenamed “Juniper,” and a 7-seat version. The 5-seater is expected to roll out first, with deliveries beginning in the first quarter, while the upgraded 7-seater version is expected later in the year, likely in the fourth quarter.

The news is particularly exciting for Tesla fans in Asia and Europe, where the 7-seat Model Y will soon be available. While a three-row version of the Model Y is already sold in the U.S., this updated configuration promises enhancements tailored to these international markets.

Much of what’s new in the refreshed Model Y is expected to mirror the changes introduced in last year’s Model 3 update. Although specific details are still under wraps, the refreshed Model Y is anticipated to feature design tweaks, improved technology, and possibly new interior options—all aimed at maintaining its status as a global bestseller.

The Tesla Model Y was the world’s best-selling car in 2023, and this refresh is likely to keep it at the top. However, some potential buyers, like Christian Fadel, have expressed concerns about the timing, particularly in regions like Quebec where EV incentives are set to decrease around the same time as the Model Y refresh’s launch.

As the countdown to 2025 begins, Tesla fans are eagerly awaiting more details about the refreshed Model Y. Whether you’re eyeing the 5-seat version or holding out for the new 7-seater, it’s clear that Tesla has big plans for its flagship crossover. Keep an eye out for more updates as we get closer to the official launch.
