Acura has officially confirmed its plans to develop an all-electric sports car that will embody the spirit of the iconic NSX. This new “NSX-type” vehicle is expected to debut between 2027 and 2028, marking a significant step forward in Acura’s commitment to electrification.

At the Monterey Car Week in California, Acura’s Global Executive Vice President Shinji Aoyama told the journalist that the brand intended to continue its legacy of high-performance vehicles in the electric era.

Acura’s upcoming sports car would use Honda’s new “0 (Zero) Series” electric platform, which is set to underpin the company’s first electric sedan in 2026. Means the EV will focus on being “thin and light,” with particular attention paid to reducing battery height to improve cabin space and the vehicle’s center of gravity.

Although Aoyama had not confirmed that the new model will carry the NSX name yet, but he emphasized that it will be a vehicle in the same vein. Also it offers the performance and design qualities that made the original NSX legendary.

The transition to an all-electric powertrain presents new challenges for Acura, particularly in maintaining the handling and track endurance that the NSX was known for. However, the move also brings opportunities for improved performance, with the instant torque and lower center of gravity typical of electric vehicles. Acura’s focus on lightweight design should further enhance the car’s capabilities, positioning it to compete in the evolving supercar market.

As Acura has already brought the NSX back in 2016 which ended production in 2022. It used a twin-turbo V-6 and three electric motors to make a combined 600 horsepower. But this time with a 500+hp hybrid powertrain.

This new sports car is part of Acura’s broader strategy to embrace electrification. It will join other electric vehicles in the brand’s lineup, including the Prologue/ZDX and the CR-V e as well as the upcoming AFEELA prototype developed in partnership with Sony. The confirmation of an all-electric “NSX-type” sports car highlights Acura’s determination to remain at the forefront of automotive innovation while continuing to honor its performance heritage.

As Acura moves towards its 2027-2028 target for the new sports car, anticipation is building among enthusiasts and industry experts alike. The vehicle is expected to offer a thrilling driving experience, blending Acura’s high-performance pedigree with the cutting-edge technology of electric mobility.
